Experience a breathtaking view from mount Meru.
A dormant volcano that reaches 4,561 meters above sea level, Mount Meru lies within the Arusha National Park, which also contains the Ngurdoto Crater and the Momella lakes.
Tanzania’s second highest mountain, Mount Meru is arguably a more complex trek than Mount Kilimanjaro, although it is often seen as a preparation trek for ‘the big one’.
The climb passes through different vegetation zones – from dry forest at the base, through dense rainforest, and then to scrub. Closer to the summit, vegetation gives way to typical Alpine terrain. During the trek, you can expect to encounter not only giraffes, Colobus monkeys and antelopes, but also buffaloes and baboons, therefore an armed park ranger must accompany you. The route will allow you to take in the landscapes, but be aware that the climb will challenge your physical abilities, so whilst the climb does not require any special skills, you do need to be fit.
As the elevation increases, you will fully appreciate the magnificent panoramas as they unfold, with Mount Kilimanjaro visible 70km in the distance. And reaching the summit is an experience you are never likely to forget.
Your trek will take place over a number of days and we will provide all the necessary support personnel – porters, cooks and guides – and equipment.
